My brother gave me some bamboo tile placemats that didn't quite work out on his table. I have heard of making jewelry out of them and thought I would give it a try. Here are some samples I made. They lay flat and are stretchy!

Halloween Activities

At my daughter's classroom Halloween party I did these activities. First was the Spider Game. You get a large ball of yarn and a large spider. Have the kids get into a circle, seated on the floor. Hand the ball of yarn to a child and tell them to hold on to the end of the string and roll it/pass it to another child across the way from them. That person then holds on to the string and passes it to another. A spider web is forming. Once completed, place a large spider on top of the web. I said the following..."Let's see if we made a safe place for the spider to live in his web. Everybody stand up and lift the web so high!" If the spider doesn't fall through, they completed the task. We did this 2 or 3 times. They kept wanting to make a web. The other activity we did was divided the class, boys from girls. The first team was taken out in the hallway and one person was covered with a sheet to be the ghost. That person is then led into the room and the other team has to figure out who is beneath. They can ask question but make sure to tell the "ghost" not to make a sound, just nod their head. The kids had a blast with this too.

Family Reunion Activities

Mummy Wrap Equipment Needed – One roll of toilet paper for every 2 peopleHow to Play – A fun game. Split into teams of two and give each team a roll of toilet paper. Games with toilet paper are always good. Then one person tries to turn the other into a mummy. Everything has to be covered except the eyes. First team done wins.

Scavenger Hunt Equipment Needed – A list of things to hunt for (one copy per person or team)How to Play – Give people or groups a list of things to hunt for, and the first one done wins. The common version is to have everyone find strange things (tennis ball, piece of string, coconut...) and bring them back.

Family hunt - Give them a list of personal characteristics, and have them find family members who match (for example, green eyes, no hair, same color eyes, born the same year). Mister Spiffy suggests tossing in a couple of easy ones like same number of arms, born after 1850, etc

Whose got the bell?
Objective: A circle game where you listen to bell and try to figure out where it is!
Categories:Kids Game type:Active. A lot of movement may be required. Players:6 or more players. Needed: Bell and blindfoldRules: All players sit in a circle facing the center. One person is blindfolded and is the "Blind Cow." The "blind cow" should be spun around and then brought to the center of the circle. The bell should then be passed around the circle and rung. The "blind cow" will then follow the sound of the bell. The game leader points at the person who should stop the bell. The "blind cow" now has to guess who is holding the bell (by pointing). If the person is right, the chosen person becomes the cow in the next round. If they are wrong, he/she has to go again (until they guess right).

DRAGON TAIL TAG
Objective:
A game where you attempt to get the other teams flag.

Game type:
Active. A lot of movement may be required.
Players:
6 or more players.
Needed:
Flags for each team Use a scarf, or a lightweight towel or a handkerchief
Rules:
Make small chains of about four to six people. Either have team members hold on to each others waists or link elbows. Members of the chains cannot let go! The end person has a flag or tail (bandana) hanging behind them or tucked in their back pocket. The object is to have the head of each chain (the dragon's head) get the flag, scarf or whatever from the other team while staying linked. Both teams attempt to do this at the same time. When one team manages to get the flag. The losing team rotates and the head moves to the back while everyone else moves forward.
One dragon version:
The game can be played with only one dragon or team. Start with six to eight players and link up as explained above. The object of the game is for the person in the front of the line to catch the "tail" of the dragon - while the dragon tries to get away! Once caught, the team rotates as usual.

FLOUR TAG
Objective:
A fun tag game where you get tagged with flour filled nylon sacks.

Active. A lot of movement may be required.
Players:
6 or more players.
Needed:
Dark shirts Flour Nylon stockings
Rules:
Choose a person to be the referee. Determine a jail area. Each player must have a dark T-shirt on (black or navy blue work well). Give each player a nylon that is filled with flour. Tie the nylon at the end to make it into a ball shape. The group plays tag as normal but players are knocked out by throwing the flour torpedoes at each other. You will be able to see who has been hit because they will be hit with a flour mark. The referee must keep their eye on the players and call out those who are hit to the jail area. Keep a damp rag handy to clean up the shirts between rounds.
Variation:
Make two teams. Set up a flag at each end of the playing field. Have the teams have to get the flag from their opponents side with out being tagged.

Likes and Dislikes: Get to know your extended family even better. Ask everyone to write down 5 of their likes and 5 of their dislikes on index cards. (Help the younger ones by writing for them.) At mealtime when everyone is gathered together, read the cards one at a time and have everyone try to guess which relative the information belongs to.
Know Your Family: Put all of the names of your relatives in a hat and have everyone draw a name. They must discreetly interview that person sometime during the party and find out one secret that no one knows about them. After everyone has had time to do the interviews, gather the group together and have them share the secret they learned. The rest of the relatives must write down on a piece of paper who they think each secret is about. The person who guesses the most people correctly wins a prize
Ice Melt- freeze blocks of ice and make up teams. First team to melt the ice wins. No cheating such as running water over the ice!

MYSTERY MADNESS
Objective:
When the music stops, reach in the mystery bag and whatever you get you have to wear!

Game type:
Passive. Little or no movement is required.
Players:
4 or more players
Needed:
Garbage bag, funny clothes, and music
Rules:
First get a bag full of different funny clothes including hats, shirts, bras (for adults only), swim suit tops and bottoms, boxers, skirts, coats etc. Then have all players sit in a circle. With music playing they pass the bag around until the music stops. When the music stops the player who has the bag has to close their eyes and reach into the bag. Whatever they pull out they have to wear. When the bag is empty, everyone votes to determine who looks the funniest.

NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT
Objective:
A race to see who can find everything on Mother Nature's List.

Game type:
Active. A lot of movement may be required.
Players:
6 or more players.
Needed:
Lists of items for each person or team
Rules:
Make a list of things to find in nature such as a pine cone, bug, leaf etc. Duplicate the list for as many players you have or one for every two people if you want to send out teams. Set a time limit and the winner is the first team back with all the objects or the team with the most objects at the end of time limit.

SPONGE RUN
Objective:
Two teams compete to fill a bucket with water by handing off a sponge.
Categories:
Groups, Relay Race, Outdoors, Kids
Game type:
Active. A lot of movement may be required.
Players:
6 or more players.
Needed:
Four buckets, two sponges and some water
Rules:
Divide into two teams. Give each team an empty bucket and a bucket filled half way with water. The buckets should be off equal size and filled the same amount. Place one member of each team a distance of 20 feet from the rest of the team with the empty bucket on the ground at their feet. The rest of each team should line up facing their team mate 20 feet away with the filled bucket at their feet. The object is to move as much water as possible in a pre-determined amount of time (usually 90 second or 2 minutes). When you say "go", one member of each team (let's call them #1) fills the sponge and races to the empty bucket and empties it. #1 then hands the sponge to the team member standing there (#2) who then runs back to the waiting team. #2 then hands the sponge to #3 who them dips the sponge and runs to the other bucket and empties it. They then hand the sponge to #1 who runs to the team and hands it to #4 etc. etc. The team who accumulates the most water wins.
